observation. >> the richard cross is helping 60 people displaced because of the fire. preliminary damage is estimated at $300,000. the cause is under investigation. >> a developing story from south africa. double amputee olympic sprinter oscar pistorius has been charged with premeditated murder in the death of his girlfriend. prosecutors alleged that he shot 29-year-old reeva steenkamp four time through the bathroom door of his home last thursday. he looked grim and solemn as prosecutors described what happened. his lawyer says it was accidental. a bail hearing comes on the same day as a private memorial service for reeva steenkamp. two of his sponsors, nike and oakley have distanced themselves from him. nike says it has no plans to use him in an upcoming campaigns. >> opening statements set to begin today in the trial of a man accused of killing a largo

mother and daughter. jason scott faces first-degree murder and other charges in the death of ebony and delores dewitt. he's also suspected of killing another mother and daughter from a largo the earlier that year. is already serving a 100-year prison sentence on unrelated charges. >> grief counselors will be on hand at suitland high school as students more loss of a classmate. >> prince george's county police are trying to figure out who shot and killed a 15-year-old boy and why. the murder happened monday afternoon on 20th avenue in hillcrest heights. >> police combed the area for clues after receiving a call about someone on the ground. they found a 15-year-old boy dead. the victim is believed to have gone to suitland high school. authorities will say little else. investigators have some leads they're working.

investigators are looking for suspects in the murder of a suitland high school student. a 15-year-old boy was found sunday afternoon on 20th avenue in hillcrest heights if. officers have not release his name and are looking into what led to his debt. >> we are looking into what caused the engine room fire that disabled a carnival cruise ship in the gulf of mexico. a leak in the fuel oil return line sparked the fire according to the coastguard. it leapt 4200 people without power or control let's for five days. the ship arrived in mobile alabama last thursday. the investigation is expected to take six months. the latest on the flu outbreak, the virginia health department says flu activity has declined but it is still widespread. the most recent report found less than 4% of doctor visits where 4 flu-like illness.

that's down from six weeks ago. cdc says flu activity is still elevated nationwide but it is now trending downward. >> a news conference today in maryland to urge congress to find a way to avoid the sequester. it will take effect march 1 unless action is taken. delma county executive ike leggett, prince george's county detective rushern baker, and howard county's executive will speak to reporters today. they warn that the sequester would have a damaging impact on maryland's economy. virginia governor bob mcdonnell is also a warning about the effects of the sequester. he has written to president obama asking him to keep his campaign pledge to avert automatic spending cuts. bob mcdonnell says virginia would feel the cuts more than any other state because a bid setting concentration of military assets. >> family and friends are looking for answers after a former marine died in a police involved shooting in alexandria.

police went to a home on duke street on monday and ordered to investigate a domestic dispute. a witness told abc 7 news that when officers arrived, a man identified by family members as 30-year-old pat sellers had a gun and did not drop it. the witnesses then heard a gunshot and the man was dead. family and friends are stunned >> . it's like i'm dreaming. i am very numb. >> i know he did not cause any problems in alexandria. >> police say the officers involved in the shooting are on leave. detectives are piecing together what exactly happened. >> the mother of a toddler who was allegedly drowned by the father of its filing a lawsuit. the 16-month-old died in october during an unsupervised court- ordered visits with his father. the father was arrested and charged with murder. the boy's mother will hold a news conference today.

38 degrees is our temperature. most of us waking up to temperatures above the freezing mark. frederick is at 27, 32 in hagerstown, 26 in martinsburg. precipitation is delayed by about three hours. talked about midmorning or before that starts to move into the metro area. it's pushing into western maryland, very light. areas to west could seal wintry mix. by the noon hour, i think everybody will start to see just rainfall. a cold front is still back here. we have a big difference between the haves and have-nots. are temperatures will be very warm today ahead of the system if. we should make it up to about 50 degrees. by 8:00, the worcester pushing and from the west.
